I am on a Journey

Again? Constantly?

It is no longer a secret that Nicol and I bumped into each other in Croatia. I could write a thick book about our meeting. After a couple of days after our first encounter she asked me “can I join you?”

I thought my dream came through but I was also scared. It took me a while to digest our magic moment. I could not even share what I was going through. Instead of just writing about my new adventure I had to understand first what happened to me, how to describe all the new impressions and experiences?

Initial thoughts.

For a long time I wanted to meet a woman who would share my journey. I was surprised how quickly things happened. “She is great”, I thought. Things will be fine, sky is the limit.

Doubts.

Not to be alone on my journey? To travel single is so easy! I do what I want, when I want it and how I want it. Am I ready to travel with someone else? Will I be able to understand the other person, will we keep the same tempo, will the journey belong to both of us? Questions started to pop out. It took me SIX seconds to answer “yes, join me” and it took another SIX months for me to grasp fully that there are two of us now.

I needed all this time to simple say “Nikol decided to accompany me on my journey around Europe”. She also set out on her own inner journey, and we both started to get to understand ourselves better. Perhaps, Nikol will share her view and what all that means to her.

Since we met, I returned to the Czech Republic to help Nikol collect the necessary kit. She was a complete greenhorn. Thanks to many friends we managed to get what we needed and hit the road again. When I accompanied Nikol to a running race in the Czech Republic, we stayed several months wintering away from the sea. During this period we organised a seminar in the Czech Republic, and started distributing parts of the book which I am writing and which you cannot find on the blog.

Spring 2017.

We are back and head towards South, aiming to circumnavigate Italy that has one of the longest shorelines. Like they say, even the logest journey begins with the first step, or in our case with the first stroke of a paddle. And YES, Nikol is not only my felow traveller but also someone whom I love very much.

Wish us success.
